Sohopathi: how a student Facebook group became a learning platform

Sohopathi began as a Q&A group run by university students. In October 2020 we started designing the backend for its web and mobile apps. By early 2023 the site listed 800,000+ learners and teachers.

How it grew

It took five years to get from a Facebook group to apps on two app stores. Each step links to its source.

    A Facebook group for questions

Students from BUET and MIST started Sohopathi as a Facebook community where anyone could post a study question and get an answer from other students.

    Backend work begins

Sohopathi needed a web app and a mobile app, and there was no proper operation behind them yet. We designed the backend architecture and wrote the API specs, then started building it.

Before and after

In 2019 the site was a Bangla question box. You asked, and someone from the community answered. By 2023 the same idea had classes, courses, teachers and an app around it. Drag the handle to compare the two.
